Butterflyheart is a kind cat with a natural empathy towards the cats around him. He has a sweet nature that leads him to seek to help others with little expectation that they'll return the favor. His natural inclination towards being helpful once made clan boundaries quite confusing for him although his stubborn desire to be respected outweighed this as he grew.
Butterflyheart is tortured by the idea of his faults and seems to rethink everything he does. At times he seems terrified of how other cats perceive him, he blanches at the idea of being disliked and does what he can to put himself in the good favor of those around him.
Butterflyheart wants to be liked, badly, and he tends to take the idea of not being liked quite badly. However, he is good at making light of his problems, he's taken to coping with humor. While his jokes are often inappropriate for the climate of a moment, he only seems to feel better if he's making some kind of silly observation.
Butterflyheart is extremely opinionated and these opinions are often fiercely defended. He can infuriatingly argumentative when he feels that he's not being listened to. In some ways, Butterflyheart is a natural leader although most are unlikely to get that impression from him upon meeting him. He doesn't struggle to take charge of situations or orchestrate things that need to be done but he does doubt himself so much that it makes it hard to listen to him.
He's prone to obsessing over things, becoming fixated on ideas and refusing to let them go. For many moons, he was fixated on the idea of being the perfect warrior which made him follow the code without wavering, however, it also made him extremely neurotic. Butterflyheart was so obsessed with this image for himself that he found that he couldn't stop picking himself to pieces.
He only started to feel better when he gave up on this dream and nowadays he's much more at ease with his position. However, he can sometimes come off as emotional, especially in high stress environments. He easily becomes overwhelmed and does not seem to be very good at regulating his emotions.
Butterflykit was born to a sickly litter of three, he had two siblings that his mother named Antkit and Midgekit. Antkit and Midgekit did not survive very long but Butterflykit was stubbornly healthy despite this. Adderfrost was a distant but loving mother, they were not perfect by any stretch of the word but they cared dearly for their living kit. Butterflykit grew up with little worry about whether or not their mother loved him but some worry about whether or not she had time for him.
He never knew his father although he always presumed that he had maybe died. Adderfrost never spoke of the tom who was responsible for their pregnancy but Butterflykit rarely asked. He had little reason to suspect that his father might be a Barkclan warrior aside from his zodiac, but he found that he wanted to embrace the symbol of the asphodel quite early.
Butterflykit spent most of his younger moons tripping up warriors while he tried to "help" them around camp, this could make him kind of a pain at times but most could see that he was well-meaning. Butterflykit often sought approval growing up, doing things in hopes that someone might tell him he was doing them well. He grew to idolize the warriors of Marrowclan, watching them with wide, hopeful eyes and imagining himself in their pawsteps.
He grew up strong and promising, he was eventually apprenticed to Lionshadow. He was excited to begin his journey towards being the best warrior he could be. It was not until some alarming events began to shake him up that he lost that confidence and started to seem a bit more anxious about it all.
Eventually he earned his warrior name and he tried to live up to his former dream. However, it quickly became evident to Butterflyheart that he was not meant for the life he'd always dreamt of after a border scuffle with an apprentice in Barkclan. Apollo and his mentor would send him back to camp with a fresh set of scars on his face but also a growing discontent with his position.
This would eventually be brought to Lionshadow who would help encourage him to become a monarch.
