Candlenight is a long-haired black cat with a reddish undercoat and speckled white markings. Their tail seems to have a red tip that drips down to white. They were born without one eye, though the one they still have is heavily scared, this fact is obscured by their odd facial markings. Finally, the markings on their paws make it look as though he is constantly standing on embers.
A quiet, indecisive, but confident cat, Candlenight is a bit of an enigma. Not necessary cold, but bad at keeping connections unless you’re with him 24/7, Candlenight likes to keep quiet and only talk when needed -- Like if someone talks to him first, or if someone says a fact that’s wrong.
。°Kithood
Candlekit and his littermate, Vigilkit were born to two loners-turned-warriors who dedicated most of their young lives to Scorpionstar. Shortly after giving birth, their mothers, Strawheart and Grassknot died defending the falls from Laurelstar’s first attempt at taking it.
As a result, Candlekit imprinted heavily on the Oracles who would come and visit the nursery. Orphans were common, but the monarchs did their best to give ample attention to each kit. Candlekit and Vigilkit kept together, often glued to each other’s side, though their interests were very different. At four moons old, another kit, Sugarkit, was apprenticed Sugarpaw to the Oracles. This crushed Candlekit’s spirits since he also wanted to be an oracle apprentice, and was convinced that there was no way he’d be able to be an apprentice at the same time someone else was, Vigilkit didn’t help this much, since he would alternate between consoling and poking fun at Candlekit’s situation. Candlekit, being the more sensitive child, openly lamented and wept over this fact, to the point that Greystar himself had to console the kit, out of fear of him drowning the nursery.

Sugarstep never managed to enjoy being a full oracle for much time, at 15 moons old a misstep while foraging for herbs led her drowning in a flood. Newlight took her death very hard, and, as a result, increased the amount of training Candlenight received, despite already getting his full name. Burstfire and Newlight both kept a watchful eye on Candlenight, though it became suffocating and hypocritical, since both the Oracles had their own secrets. At this point, a Bright Grove/Dark Forest warrior had been reaching out to Candlelight regularly, wanting to train him for the upcoming battle with Starclan, stating that they would help protect Marrowclan as a whole, a value Newlight had been hammering into the heads of all her apprentices. Candlenight threw himself into these visions to distract from Sugarstep’s death, but this created yet another rift between him and Vigilfire, since Candlenight was amassing secrets and distractions he didn’t trust his sibling with, even though Vigilfire insisted they share the burden to make it lighter.

Candlelight assisted in the ceremony involved in breaking Astron apart and killing him, effectively being one of the catalysts for the battle of the stars. After realizing the Dark Forest warrior he had been assisting was effectively lying to him, he battled against them. In his rage during the fight, he did neglect his Oracle duties, and blames himself heavily for Burstfire’s passing, considering she was only 52 moons old at the time. He believes that really started Newlight’s decline in health, despite her age, and feels that his attention should have been elsewhere during the event.
He also partook in the discussion of how the new spirits should be revered as, and eventually agreed with Newlight that they should be daemons, and not gods. However, his faith in that way is shakey at best, if the new daemons wished to be seen as Gods, and in return give his clan their favor, he is willing to do what is needed for the betterment of the clan. However, he also knows that train of thought can be easily manipulated, like when he was used by a Dark Forest cat. Originally lenient with Seraphimflame’s worship of the daemons, he would even chat with the warrior on spirituality and get his opinions. A budding friendship that would eventually shatter.
Candlenight and Newlight took regular patrols to destroy any shrine made out to these daemons, as Newlight was stubborn and old, convinced that Lunae and Solis would take offense to those shrines. Candlenight would try to salvage what he could, or effectively hide any shrine he thought might be from Seraphimflame, while he decided his own feelings on the matter. However, those patrols were short-lived, as Newlight took her last breath in the Med-den shortly after reaching 120 moons old. Soon after, Seraphimflame started arguing that Hyd and Vis were worthy of respect, forcing him out of Marrowclan, especially since Candlenight chose to stay silent during his debate.
Candlelight stays grappling with this sudden smack of existential dread, the Med-den being empty of any official authority other than himself. The mentors he was dependent on’s absence smothers him, and the kinship he felt with Sugarstep is not only gone, but has been for many cycles now. He has no one to relate to, leaving him to start a merciless and rather annoying campaign to fill the med-den with qualified cats He was elated when Mothpaw began making frequent visits to the Med-den, and accepted the apprentice without much thought over its skill. Though he is relieved that the warrior part of Mothpaw’s training is done, and has been focusing more on the healing part of being an Oracle.
He busies himself with planning how his moons training Mothpaw will go, as well as a newfound need to rekindle his brotherhood with Vigilfire.
